Museum of History and Ethnography, Melaka

I went to Melaka a few times already but did not have the chance to visit the Museum of History and Ethnography. So when my family and I visited the state few months back, I made the time to visit the museum. It was because I needed to refresh my mind on what I had learned from school textbooks many many years ago. I mean, do you remember what year was it when the Portuguese conquered Melaka? Ok, ok, you know it was in 1511. ;P But do you remember when was it that the Dutch ruled Melaka? How many years? Ok, if you do remember, that’s very good but as for me the only thing that I excelled in History subject was the map drawing part. I remember my teacher said, “Emila, you should be a cartographer.” LOL.

Anyway, visiting the museum really was a good experience. The museum is located inside the Stadthuys building which was declared as National Heritage of Malaysia under the National Heritage Act 2005.

The exhibits inside the museum provide a reflection of early Melaka; from the period of Melaka founding (circa 1400) to the establishment of independent Federation of Malaya (1957). Among the exhibits on display are ancient porcelain ware, ancient weapons, various currencies, historical figure statues and loads of information about the history in the form of poster prints and photos.

Buyer: How much do I owe you for the groceries? Seller: 2 cockerels and a hen.

I saw this man in Cape Town! I mean the statue.

If I tell you everything about the Museum of History and Ethnography of Melaka, I am sure that it’ll take a lot of pages. You need to visit and explore the museum yourself to learn more. The entrance fee of the museum is RM2.00 for adult RM0.50 for children. Do bring your kids along during school holiday.

Malaysian Girl paintings meet owner, Sharmila

Made appointment to meet Sharmila at Publika, Dutamas to hand over the paintings that she commissioned me to do. We met at the Art Row where Fuyoh Bazaar is held. I was here last month selling my stuff and Sharmila came and bought my book, My Mother’s Garden.

After our little chat today, I got to know that Sharmila is also a blogger and she blogs at ParenThots. Do check her blog and read her inspiring stories about raising her children.

Left: Sharmila and her lovely children, Ayanna and Shamindra (seated in the stroller).

    Colorful Dutamas!

I was driving to Publika, Jalan Dutamas 1, earlier today when I noticed colorful bricks at a cemented slope at a corner of the road, not far from Publika. I told my niece, that we should take picturesof the painted bricks. After handing over my commissioned paintings to Sharmila at the Art Row, I made that stop at the corner. As I didn’t bring my camera, I just took some pictures with my hand phone.

I am not sure of the motive but I am loving the idea. I noticed that the colors are quite fluorescent and thought to myself, these can act as reflectors at night. I hope someone who lives there would pass by this little blog one day and enlight me with the information. Till that happens, enjoy this picture!

    Pirate Park, Melaka

I was visiting a friend, Jerry DZ, in Melaka, for the weekend few months back and being a good host, he took us to the Pirate Park. Paid everything for us (or was it free, Jerry? :D) and we got on the ferris wheel dubbed as Eye on Melaka. From up there, we got to see the view of Melaka town at night.

    The famous ferris wheel.

Jerry DZ in dark blue. My husband in white.

Seating capacity of this ferris wheel is 64pax (16 gondolas/pods). I think the ticket is RM5 per person for a 10 minutes ride. This ferris wheel  stands at 25m high.

    My son in the pod.

    Melaka City.

Attraction at Pirate Park includes Pirate Ship, Rock Climbing and Flying Fox. This park which is situated at Jalan Tun Ali, Melaka, operates daily from 5am until 12 midnight. Do take your kids here and don’t forget to take loads of pictures.

My son wanted to go on the Pirate Ship but I was afraid. Had a similar ride during my teenage years (at Yaohan the Mall) and I felt like I was going to be thrown off the ship. fter the ride was over, I puked. That was when I swear to not have the ride or any similar ride ever again.

Have you ever rode on one? How was it feel? If you feel like sharing, do drop me a note in the comment box.

    Pirate Ship.

    Breakfast at Delifrance #ampang

I have this habit of taking coffee or late breakfast at local cafes. One cafe that I frequented is Delifrance situated at Ampang Point shopping complex. I normally do this at 10am, finish it by 10.45am and rush to pick up my son at 11am. As I live somewhere in Ampang, I only look for cafes located in Ampang.

I love to go to Delifrance because the breakfast set is cheap, less than RM10. Breakfast set offered includes Traditional, Sunny and Soup & Bread.

This Delifrance outlet opens only at 10am as it is located inside the complex. Typical opening time for almost all shopping complex is 10am. Exception for those located outside the building; some open at 8.30am, some 9.00am. I surely miss having breakfast as San Francisco Coffee, previously located at the second entrance opposite the parking area. The place is now occupied by Starbuck Coffee.

Here’s my sunny breakfast! And coffee, of course.

Vote for travel bloggers who promote Malaysia #mitbca2012

We all agree that tourism is the world’s largest industry and growing significantly. And the role and effort that travel bloggers made by blogging their travel experience plays a huge part in the industry. Of course there are travel websites to help promote places of interest all over the world but sometimes traveller will seek first hand information from other travellers mainly those who blog about it.

Realising this, Tourism Malaysia has created Malaysia International Tourism Bloggers Conference and Awards (MITBCA 2012) to honour travel bloggers who promote Malaysia in general. Some 376 blogs have been nominated in 16 categories; with 160 international bloggers (bloggers at travelblog.org) from all over the world participating in the Tourism Travel Blog Category.

Now you readers, people of the earth, permanent residents of Malaysia, Malaysians, tourists, or anybody who has a Facebook account, you have a task for the weekend or until 1st May 2012.

What I need you to do is, login with your Facebook account and browse through the categories on the left sidebar. Click on each link to read their blog (I reckon some of them, if not all, have travel category in their blog) and later choose the best blogger that you think deserves the award. You can vote only once for each category.

Now head on to MITBCA 2012 and vote! Your votes will help travel bloggers who promote Malaysia get the recognition they deserved.
