    AKPK’s book launching

Attended AKPK‘s book launching today. I have never been to a book launching and I was reluctant at first. My husband told me to go and so I did. It was AKPK’s “Money Sense” book launching. Money Sense is a book about getting smart with your money and is a common sense guide on money matters. I did the cover design, typesettings and some illos inside the book. My husband couldn’t accompany me as he has loads of work to take care of. I didn’t have friends to go with but luckily my friends, Elina and Valentino was there. Elina was the manager handling the book project while Valentino is one of AKPK’s vendor. We knew each other back in BERNAS. Elina is now working with a leading giant telecommunication company.

The book launching was officiated by Y.B. Dato’ Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Minister of Higher Education, Malaysia.

    Landscape & Garden Festival 2008

I went to Lake Garden last Friday with my son and mom to see the Malaysia’s Landscape & Garden Festival 2008. I didn’t have a chance to take a lot of pictures coz I have to tail Yassin everywhere. It’s difficult to take pictures if my husband’s not around. Managed to only snap photos around the playground.

Yassin is into climbing these days

    ‘We are all geeks’ Contest!

Think you’re geeky enough to design geeky greeting cards? You are? Then, you’re it! Grab a cup of coffee, sit down and read this:

    Artwork Credit: Foldees.com

We Are All Geeks contest opens to you if you’re above 13, regardless of where in the world you live.

This contest is organised by Foldees.com, a Malaysia based website created to showcase and market greeting card designs from talented freelance designers around the world. Designs will be moderated for content and professionalism, but once it goes on their site, they’ll pay you a royalty every time someone buys it!

Gearing up for their Merdeka Day launch on August 31st 2008, they need your help to participate in their first ever contest, entitled We Are All Geeks (full brief below). Contest starts now and closes on 17th July 2008. After the submission deadline ends, they’ll put your cards on the site for any registered user to vote for, and the highest rated card wins.

Winning designs will be featured in all their promotional materials, and the highest-rated design will be distributed with every Don’t Panic pack in the month of September 2008. To make it worth your while, the winning design will also earn RM2,000 in cash plus some awesome prizes!

    1st Prize – RM2000 cash + WACOM Intuos3 A4 Size (worth RM1699)
    2nd Prize – RM1000 cash + WACOM Intuos3 A6 Wide (worth RM1039)
    3rd Prize – RM500 cash + WACOM Bamboo Fun Tablet A5 Size (worth RM699)
Consolation prizes x2 – WACOM Bamboo Fun Tablet A6 Size (worth RM399)

    The Brief
Geeks have now taken over the world. We spend more time typing than speaking, getting fit on a Wii, and buying iPods in matching colours. Foldees.com wants cards that speak to this new generation of geeks, in ways that current greeting cards are not. They are currently looking for Birthday, Flirty, Office, Sorry and Thank You card ideas, but if you’ve got a card that’s way out there for anything else, feel free to submit it as well, as long as it’s within the geeky theme.

    How to Participate?
Simply download the AI template here, use it to design a card and upload the complete AI file back to the site with your details before July 17th 2008!

    The Challenge
You’re not allowed to use any raster images for your cards. All cards have to be created using only solid colour vector art in Adobe Illustrator. This excludes not only JPG or TIFF images, but also any form of shadowing, filters or transparencies of colour.

I am all geared up to a geeky weekend! I already have a ready idea for a geeky card. The geeky watercolor drawing I made last year. I’m gonna make it solid vectors! With few changes of course, especially that tabletopia and the left shoe (it has a feeling of the right shoe) ;P

Thank you Chak for letting me know about the contest.

    Weekend activities

We’re supposed to go for Julia’s wedding and my cousin’s engagement but our car had some trouble and only managed to get it fixed today. Since it’s school holiday, we went to Bukit Cerakah and RMAF air show. We missed the morning show but managed to catch the afternoon one. It was fun!

We decided to go to Bukit Cerakah while waiting for the afternoon RMAF air show. We only managed to explore some part of the Animal Garden.

The air show was in conjunction of RMAF’s 50th anniversary.
