Landslide: Search to continue despite darkness and rain

The Star Online reported at 9.34pm that the search and rescue operation will continue until all victims buried under the landslide at Rumah Anak-anak Yatim Hidayah in Hulu Langat are recovered.

Photo from The Star Online Gallery.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar said the operation involved 200 personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department, Special Search and Rescue Team Malaysia (Smart), Civil Defence Department and the police. “The search and rescue operation will continue until all victims are found despite the darkness and rain.”

Ismail urged the public to stay away from the area so as not to disturb rescuers in their work.

The landslide this afternoon had killed nine and leaving seven still buried. Firemen and villagers managed to pull out nine alive by 10pm from the Rumah Anak Yatim Hidayah, Madrasah Al-Takwa, Jalan Felcra Semungkus, 14th mile, Hulu Langat, near Kajang.

The dead and alive have been sent to the Ampang and Kajang Hospitals.

My thoughts and prayers are with the orphans.

    I Remember You: Princess Diana

I selected the theme ‘I Remember You‘ for the Sketchbook Project 2102 and previously, I thought that I flip through my album and draw people in the photos. But I changed my mind. I decided to pay tribute to inspiring people (deceased) that I had known since I was young. Princess Diana was one. I wanted to draw Saloma first but I couldn’t find the right picture. Will search again later.

So these are the names in my drawing list:

    • Princess Diana
    • Saloma
    • Normadiah
    • Saadiah
    • Anita Mui
    • Audrey Hepburn (as per suggestion by Nurul)

Will add to the list from time to time. Given a page for the title, I have 15 spreads to draw. 14 left.

  • Sketchbook 2012

    My Sketchbook 2012 is here!

    Received it 2 days ago!

The sketchbook for this one is a bit wider and the weight is not much different than the previous one. If last year they used Moleskine, this year’s sketchbook is custom-made and made from high quality 100% recycled paper milled in the Pacific Northwest, printed with vegetable-based inks and produced with renewable energy. They enhanced the strength of the cover and selected wire saddle stitching so that each book is easier to rebind if necessary.

I had just drawn a spread, will post it up in my next post. Do you like to join this project? Head on to The Sketchbook Project World Tour 2012.

Check out my sketchbook that I submitted last year for The Sketchbook Project 2011 which is on tour now in the USA.

Whenever I received messages saying that my PayPal has a problem, I will always check the link by rolling the mouse over the link. I never click on other links when it comes to PayPal. PayPal equals money, so I am extra careful.

    PayPal correct link is:

    Malaysia: http://www.paypal.com/my

In the case of the phishing site, the link has dot net extension; http://paypal.net.

Here’s the message that they sent, look convincing but it’s not from the real PayPal. If they ask you to download the form and fill in, DO NOT. Instead, report the site to Paypal.

    271 Picasso’s paintings discovered

I have subscribed to the feed of The Telegraph (online) recently and from time to time, I read interesting news. And today, I just read about the discovery of Picasso’s paintings. Very interesting.

source of picture and news: The Telegraph

According to The Telegraph, the paintings were found in the possession of Pierre Le Guenneca, a retired odd job man and electrician. But pity him, he was suspected of stealing the paintings. During questioning, Mr Le Guennec said he was given the works after installing alarm systems at three of the artist’s Riviera homes in the three years until he died in 1973 — La Californie, the villa he bought in Cannes in 1955, his chateau de Vauvenargues and Notre-Dame-de-Vie, the farmhouse in Mougins where he died.

Picasso’s heir did not believe the story and said that his father was reluctant to gave away any works, obsessively kept everything and forbade people to enter his studio.

So… were they stolen or given?

I think the old man might be telling the truth. As a struggling artist, I know how hard it is to make ends meet by selling paintings. If I can trade paintings with things I need, I would even if it takes 271 of them.

And of course, I will forbid people to enter my studio because it is not a safe place to be, other than the painter him/herself. I tend to leave paints, tubes, brushes, and water containers all over the place. I remember things just where I placed them last. Having guests would mean that I have to clean the studio. And I hate doing that.

What is your thought on this matter? I want to know.
