I really love seeing the banner across Google today in conjunction with Mark Twain’s 176th birthday. It’s a beautiful drawing depicting a scene in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (written in 1876) where the character of Tom Sawyer cleverly persuades his friends to trade him small treasures for the privilege of painting a fence, that Tom was asked to do as a punishment.

The Doodle’s style may refer to the original Twain illustrator, True Williams.
