Mortar & pestle
When I was little I remember having to use ‘batu giling’ (metate) to grind chilis. Then it disappeared and then I remember having to pound chilis using mortar and pestle. I love to do it in style, wearing a pair of shades. Haha. It was actually more to protect my eyes. And the most comfortable way to pound is to sit with the knees bent and folded back.
Anyway, here’s a draft sketch of a spread for my 2nd picture book, My Father’s Kitchen, that my editor wants me to add in.

Hahaha! I remember the batu giling when I was little because even though that time dah ada mortar and pestle my late grandmother insists that everything was to be “giling-ed” for Raya. I kesian my mom and aunties that time. LOL!
Never terpikir pulak nak use shades when pounding chilis. Hahah!
And i love this illo… super cute! 🙂
