I know, when I put them all up in my blog, they’ll appear in the google search. And google, being a giant search engine always has this remark: “This image may be subject to copyright.” And people who search for images, sometimes are being just plain ignorant. They copied it down directly without giving thoughts of checking the website/blog for information regarding the images.

Today, I went to Genting Highland and found out that my merdeka girl illustration is being used as photostated greeting cards by BION SB Management as greeting cards and they stapled some pieces over their ticketing counter.
I did mentioned in my TERMS OF USE, that:
You can:
1. use (as is) my illustrations/photos/verses to accompany your posts.
2. download and print as personal greeting cards; to share any illustrations/photos/verses with other individuals you care about.
In all cases, my name, Emila Yusof with link to my blog https://emilayusof.com MUST be included.
POSTS in this context are BLOG POSTS.
PERSONAL GREETING CARDS literally means just that; personal greeting cards. They cannot be seen as public decorations or as such, including photostated ones.
INDIVIDUALS YOU CARE ABOUT means your mother, father, sister, grandfather, grandmother, brother, cousin, second cousin, auntie, uncle as such. PUBLIC is so not included.
According to dictionary, the word PERSONAL is a definition that means “relating to somebody’s private life: relating to the parts of somebody’s life that are private”.
I am putting this explanation up in my terms-of-use page.

Wa akak, copyright infringement issue ni akak. Saya sebgai pelajar commercial law boleh tlong akak ntuk sue diorg. It doesnt look big on the surface tp the lost of reputation and potential future income tu bleh jadi besar.
Org2x macam ni mmg ignorant kene pancung je eloknye.
Oh saya plak yg teremo. hehe. Hope u r fine, u sounded so pissed off.
Anyway, lepas blajar commerce bru la saya bace terms and conditions or disclaimers. kalau tak, sebelum ni haram jadah la nak bace. Manusia la katekan.. :S
Marly
There are people who don’t pay attention to disclaimers. They should be aware of that.
emila
indeed, they should. but i think the awareness of locals here are a bit low.
emila
Boleh dikatakan pissed off sedikit, tak banyak. Dah banyak, rata-ratanya yang ambil lukisan saya, bila ditanya, kata mereka, mereka tak aware of the copyright, tak aware gambar ada copyright, tak aware gambar ada owner. I feel that we should educate the locals what copyright is all about. And also educate them the proper way to browse for pictures, to read all the disclaimer or copyright notices.
emila
hmm…good idea, lj. will put the translation soon. but some people, don’t really give a s&*t to check the copyright.

Nampaknya perlu letak tulisan besar warna merah kak.. COPYRIGHTT!!!!

baik akak ‘sue’ aje..saya yang blur2 psl law pun cuak2 nak pakai gambar yg saya dpt kat google, takkan la diaorg dari company mcm tu takde terfikir langsung?
to them, ignorance is a bliss.

You can run, but you can’t hide…muhahahaaa.. Musti owner rasa kaciwa teramat sangat bila ‘terjumpa’ hakciptanya tergantung gitu. Ini kes ‘terjumpa’, kalau tak ‘ter’ pula tu mesti banyak.
Anyway, pity for you. And thank God, you don’t bother to take any action.
Spiffy
People in Malaysia don’t know the meaning of copyrights la!
Sue them! Sue them! Sue them! LOL!
emila
depa lagi blur rasanya, nia
emila
tu lah, kebetulan nak terjumpa. nak take action pun saya tak mampu…saya hanya mampu membebel je
emila
i agree, the word COPYRIGHT does not mean anything. lol, i don’t think i will sue, just membebel tahap maksima je.
izul
yup, awareness level kt Malaysia (sorry to say) cincai2x je, even enforcement tak clear sgt. Hope u r fine 🙂

Salam Kak Emi..
Saman! Saman! Saman!..
bain
laaa….ada lagi yg x reti x paham bahasa ni…:( sabar je laa kak Emi. tapi, org mcm ni mmg x bole bagi muka sgt. dahlee plagiat utk kepentingan/keuntungan sendiri..x pikir langsung psl penat lelah org lain.
emila
ada ramai, bain
emila
tu la, tapi depa dah apologise. next time maybe
emila
i’m ok, no worries
Mamapumpkin
BUSTED!!! I cannot believe the nerve. Especially for a public event, the nerve indeed. How ignorant. Urgh. I would take action and charge them! Teach them a lesson. People need to learn! But I understand the work that is involved in doing so *sigh* Been there, done that, know how you feel.

teruk betul.
emila
itu la…susah juga nak educate
emila
royalty? kalau depa curi je gambar maknanya depa taknak bayar royalty
emila
kalau nak hasilkan, letak watermark besar2
emila
so busted. i wanted to, but i cannot afford to take action.
Alessandra Kelley
That’s really nervy. Shouldn’t a business know better than to steal someone’s work? It’s pretty shocking — more something you’d expect from an ignorant individual.
emila
they should, alessandra. but i think the staff have the faintest idea the meaning of copyright.
wansteddy
saya pn pernah pk nk taruk watermark dalam design, tapi kalau kita taruk watermark besar2 dah rasa tak best nak paparkan artwork dlm blog 🙁
emila
tu la kalau watermark besar2 pun tak puashati nengok gambar
