    Illustrations for Rep Agency

    sedna1

sedna's blood that transformed into sea creatures

Illustrations I did for my portfolio with Yusof Gajah & Lingard Agency, Malaysia’s very first representatives for children’s book writers and illustrators. The agency is a partnership between Malaysia’s internationally renown illustrator, Yusof Gajah and Linda Tan Lingard, a local book publisher (Oyezbooks). I am among one of the first 10 chosen  illustrators and all of us were given a task to illustrate a story during a workshop organised by the agency last Sunday. The stories and illustrations will be compiled as our portfolio. I Illustrated two stories actually but I don’t have the picture of the other one (How Frog Lost His Tail) as I have to submit it there and then. Didn’t bring my camera also. Took the second task (The Tale of Sedna) a day after the workshop so I was free to work on the illustrations at my own pace. Will submit these this weekend.

Will let you know how to contact the agency as they has start representing me as of Monday, 8 June 2009 for a year.

Here’s the story summary of The Tale of Sedna:

A long time ago, there were no seals or walruses for Eskimos to hunt. This is a story of how seals and walruses came to be. Sedna was a beautiful Eskimo girl. One day she married a handsome young hunter but he turned out to be a bird spirit. By lifting up his hands, they turned into wings and he could fly. He took Sedna to his island. Sedna’s father came to rescue her in his kayak. But the bird spirit caused a huge wave. Sedna’s father panicked and threw Sedna into sea. Sedna grabbed hold of the edge of the kayak but her frightened father stabbed her fingers with a knife. Blood flowed from her fingers and they turned into seals, walruses, whales. Today, the Eskimos pray to Sedna to release a seal or a walrus so that they could eat.

If you google, you can find various versions of the tale.

    Shooting @ No. 7

Last Sunday, my house has been a shooting site for a Budi Bahasa Campaign trailer produced by Filem Negara. The trailer is sourced out to Aplhaflex Sdn Bhd, a production company for direction and my husband took the offer from Alphaflex to direct the trailer. I missed all the fun watching the make of the trailer as I had to attend a drawing session at Yusof Gajah’s workshop (will blog about this in different post). My husband took photos for me to see. My son surely had great times getting to know the crew and got acquainted with the make-up artist, Shah.

I have met Norli personally and was introduced to her during Daliza’s son’s (Ali) birthday party last month. Norli made a dinosaur cake and cupcakes for Ali. Ali was so amazed with her cake and so was my son and me. I will definitely order the same cake for Yassin’s birthday.

    Here’s a greeting from Norli:

Hello everybody! I’m a proud mother of 3 beautiful kids and currently a stay-at-home mom since I quit my last job almost 10-years ago. I fell in love with baking and cake decoration since i start experimenting with  icing a few years ago. Today, I just love decorating cakes, and I am extremely honoured and proud of my work, especially when customers give me good feedback.

I graduated from Cardiff University of Wales in 1997 majoring in accounting, but quit my job to follow my husband to San Francisco for a year.

Now i have a new hobby and it has turned out to be my part-time income, and I’m  loving cake-decorating more and more. Every cake is a challenge to me. What i can offer my customers are cakes within a reasonable price and with maximum customers satisfaction at its heart. I also take orders based on customers budget.

That’s pretty much about me. I’m living the simple life with my husband and our children we adore, and i hope my fledgling cake business runs as smoothly as how my life I hope turns out to be.

Norli takes order via sms (012-6618670) from 8.30am – 6.00pm. Orders can be made 4 days before pick-up date and delivery can be arranged within Klang Valley area. Payments are to be made to her Maybank account. More information can be found at her blog: Beauty and the Best.

    Dragons & damsels

Found so many dragonflies and damselflies in Lata Lembik and of course I could not resist taking their pictures. Here are some:

    pink dragonfly

    red dragonfly

    blue dragonfly

    dfll05

    blue damselfly

    green damselfly

Most of them were chasing one another and the amazing thing was that they were chasing only those from their same color.
