While I am busy struggling to meet deadline for bigbook 3, my husband and son is having a great time at the kitchen this morning. They are making bahulu. Yassin is so happy to make his first kuih!

Bored and lazy Monday

Posted by emila Filed Under misc, yassin with 5 Comments

I am bored of the look of this blog. I want to change it. So expect a change anytime today. Tehehe.

Anyway, I’ve updated Yassin’s blog with his Boy lost in the Forest story.

I know I should be doing the illustrations for bigbook number 2 but I’m so not in the mood today.

Storytelling @ Petronas Gallery

Posted by emila Filed Under local events, yassin with 4 Comments

I was too busy that I almost forgot the storytelling program at the Petronas Gallery, KLCC scheduled for yesterday. My slot was 10.00am to 11.00am. So, on Friday I was madly on the quest looking for the invitation letter. I have to hand it over as without it I won’t be getting my honorarium. After searching high and low, I found it sitting nicely amongst my lil guardians’ paintings.

It was fun despite the fact that I had no experience telling story in public. Yeah, I have the thought of not attending the program too but when I thought hard, I need to attend. I need to break the nervous habit. And so, I did.

After my part of telling Diya & Biji Durian story, I stayed on for the next storytelling session by fellow illustrators Encik Shukri Edrus (Kisah Pak Kaduk) and NurAzmi Moktar (My Space Mission). Chin Yew was supposed to  be my partner for the first session but he could not make it and his slot was filled by Muhamad Faizal Abdul Jalil with his story “Di Mana Kawan-Kawan Saya?”

I brought Yassin along to the storytelling program and he had a blast! Should bring him more to event like this.

Pak Shukri telling ‘Kisah Pak Kaduk’ to children

Pak Shukri later taught how to draw a rooster

My son, Yassin followed the drawing class eagerly

He drew more than Pak Shukri! Hehe. He added coconut tree, vegetables bed and birds.

Later it was a drawing competition conducted by Nurazmi Mokhtar. Children were asked to draw their own spaceship.

Yassin was amongst the Top 5 and he won an Anak Seni Galeri Petronas’s t-shirt! He put it on right away and wore it until it was time for shower at the end of the day.

Nak lagi…

Happy Teacher’s Day

Yassin and me made Teacher’s Day cards to be given to his school teachers today.

Sorry we haven’t been around, both of us were not well last week.

Mother’s Day Part 2

On Monday, he came home from school with a smile and handed me an envelope:

This is the front view:

Back view:

And inside, there’s a letter for me:

Surprisingly, he was not all satisfied with his card yesterday. He spent RM1.50 out of his lunch money to buy this set of lovey dovey envelope and paper!

Now, this really MELT my heart away!!! Thank you my darling!

Penang: from my son’s journal

Posted by emila Filed Under travel/holidays, yassin with 31 Comments

I really thought that last Monday was a public holiday, so we stayed for the night (Sunday) in Penang. Truth, Monday was school day! Kantoi! Tapi dah buat surat explain to the teacher….

My son was really excited about going to an Island, so he took my mini notebook and wrote/drew things he saw.

No smoking. Not sure where he saw this.

Breakfast time. His dad and me seated together and him alone. Actually his cousin sister was seated besides him, but somehow he intentionally left her out.

List of food we ate during breakfast, complete with the table number :)

A list of places that he passed by and how many times.
(It’s a good idea to take note on how many longkang you passed by.)

Pulau Rimau ferry.

Marine life in Penang.

Oh! Penang got orca!

Our car.

Eh?

Hmm…

Ok, you may ignore the latter two; they were so not Penang! Hehehehe

Yassin’s current obsession

More cars in his blog!

The Kid Lost in Forest

Posted by emila Filed Under yassin with 30 Comments

My son, Yassin,  is inspired by my books and decided to write and illustrate his own book. So I bought him a square sketch book at Kinokuniya.

He excitedly wrote his book, entitled “The Kid Lost in Forest“, with the translation in Bahasa Melayu!! Mind the spellings, k!

I will help him post the story in his blog:  Yassin Zaim | I like drawing but hate coloring
