    Monday Artday: 1C 4P

1C 4P means I Character, 4 Panels. This is the challenge that has been posted by Mike R. Baker over at Monday Artday.

Here’s my character on 4 panels:

When I was a kid, I had fun playing with my hair. I would force my sister to use her hairbeads and put them on my hair. But It didn’t last long though, the beads would fall off easily as I have very smooth and straight hair! My sister would follow behind me and collect her beads. I don’t really like to let my hair down unless it was Hari Raya! Haha! Anyway, my favourite hair-dos are the ponytails and rope braids. Ponytails are easy to do but rope braids, took me months to get it perfect. My school friends used to call me Emila the Red Indian.

I can also do the french braid, you know!

    Steampunk – Monday Artday

Ok, this is so un-me. Creating an illo like this is way off my forte but I like the challenge and always open to trying out other styles. Submitted this in MAD. The challenge is ‘Steampunk’. Steampunk is a fashion style, a tech-mod style, and a fiction (usually sci-fi) style in which technology re-emerges as though everything runs on steam, mechanics (cogs and gears), and fashion and design is stuck in the Victorian style. Examples are League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Jules Verne, The Golden Compass, Steamboy, etc.

I redesigned Sillof’s version of Obi Wan Kenobi. Paddings and armor are basically his. Made them smaller and more feminine to suit the female character. I added a choker (haha looks a bit goth now), riveted bangles, lacy belt and riveted skirt. And yeah, the body posture is Lara Croft’s, changed the gun to suit overall steampunk theme.

    Hair – Monday Artday

Beauty is in the hair | Digital

I posted this in Monday Artday. The challenge this week is to draw ‘Hair’. Early this year, I made a resolution to take up the Monday Artday’s weekly challenge but I somehow failed. The last time I posted an illo in there was on January 11. Resolutions are very hard to keep, remind me not to make any next year. On wacom, 45 minutes.

    Today is not even Monday.

    Busy Town

Busy Town by Emila | Pen and Marker in Moleskine

I have not been participating for Monday Artday for quite sometimes and thought I start illustrating every week now. This is an additional resolution for this year.

The theme is ‘Busy Town’- This ‘town’ is a mixture of Penang, Melaka and KL.  Added a French-style kedai roti (bakery) and kedai kopi (cafe). I use Micron pen for overall drawing, Artline Calligraphy pen for the title and Kurecolor marker for the shading. Here’s a cropped close-up:

Alamak! Saya lupa nak lukis tiang elektrik!
