Atmosphere – IF

Posted by emila Filed Under IF, comm. work, digital illos with 20 Comments

The challenge over at Illustration Friday is to draw Atmosphere. I just finished illustrating bigbook 2 (out of 6) for a publisher and thought that a page from the book is suitable for the theme.

Technically, there’s one and a half page left to illustrate for this book. Below is page 11 out of 12. Will submit to the editor by late today.

Do you have any questions regarding how I do my work? Do leave your questions in the comment box and I will answer them happily. Thanks!

Yay! Bigbook 2 almost finished! Bigbook 3 is waiting!

Yay! These girls have won Today’s Best Award at Zazzle.com! I am so happy. Will work on more items in my Zazzle store.

Also, I am working with a friend on bringing my first printed mug in my littleshop! I’ve given her my artworks and of course I will show to you once the printed mugs arrived.

Star gazing – IF

Illustration Friday‘s challenge was to illustrate “star gazing”.

Star Light Star bright,
The first star I see tonight,
I wish I may, I wish I might,
Have the wish I wish tonight.

WiP: Book 1 almost done

Posted by emila Filed Under comm. work, digital illos with 8 Comments

Two pages left to illustrate for Book 1. Here’s the follow-up of page 6.

I will fine-tune it together with other pages before submitting to the editor. Next is Book 2 of 6! And the deadline is end of August. They have given me a lot of deadlines and I certainly cannot ask for extension as they got orders to fulfill.

All objects are done on separate layers so that it’s easy for me to move them around. I use chalk brush in Painter Essential 3.

Work in progress – big books

Posted by emila Filed Under comm. work, crafts, digital illos with 12 Comments

I have cleared other works to give way to my major commission work but I seem to procrastinate a lot. I am so hooked on making felt birds hehehe. I promised to submit at lease drawings for one book first today. Total is 12, I have done almost 6.

And this is page 6 in progress.

And these are my felt birdies:

OK, I’m off to draw some more. See ya.

Big Books for PTS

Posted by emila Filed Under comm. work, digital illos with 6 Comments

Finally, I have submitted the covers for commission job by PTS. I am now illustrating the stories, 6 stories in total and about 10 illustrations per story. They are excited about it as much as I am. I am blocking other works to make way for this big job as I have been dragging it for almost two months due to workloads.

Here’s a cover (cropped, not full version) painted digitally using Painter Essential. The writer to all books is Alia Nina.

Essentially yours

I have been dilly-dallying a big job for quite sometimes already and few days ago I got a reminder to submit at least the covers first. Drawing traditionally, I will take my own sweeeeeeeeeeet time adding details and perfecting the colors. After the scanning process, I will take some more sweeeeeeeeeet time perfecting the drawing by cleaning and neating it. So overall, for a drawing, I will take more than three days. But it will take more days when the mood is not there. Seeing me working like that, my husband suggested that I work smart, drawing digitally using Corel Painter. At first I was a bit reluctant but thinking that I will save more time, I gave in to the idea. And so, I installed Corel Painter Essential 3 that came free with the Wacom tablet I won from Foldees.com.

So, after spending a day getting acquainted with Essential, I start on the first drawing of the book covers. So far so good, but essentially, this Essential version is quite limited. But that’s okay I guess, long as there’s a brush tool and a color palette; the two most essential tools, I think I can live essentially with the Essential version.
