Of the bluest skies in Malaysia

Do you love looking up the sky and see the bluest hue of it? I do. I call it blue sky-therapy. The color blue gives me the feelings of calmness, serenity, peaceful, tranquil, secure, and orderly. It also reduces stress. Travelling gives me the chance get all that. And it is pivotal for me to capture photos of sky because I can never get the same sky if I travel to the same place again.

So, do you know why the sky is blue? The blue color of the sky is due to Rayleigh scattering. As light moves through the atmosphere, most of the longer wavelengths pass straight through. Little of the red, orange and yellow light is affected by the air. However, much of the shorter wavelength light is absorbed by the gas molecules. The absorbed blue light is then radiated in different directions. It gets scattered all around the sky. Whichever direction you look, some of this scattered blue light reaches you. Since you see the blue light from everywhere overhead, the sky looks blue.

Here are random sky photos from around Malaysia I captured with my Nikon DSLR that I want to share with you. Whenever you are in stress, do come back here often and see my sky photos.

    Enjoy!

    Book discussion with Pak Samad

Even if one of my resolutions is not to take any more commission job, but I can never say no to Pak Samad. I’ve been doing his book designing and typesetting since 2004 (under Wira Bukit Sdn Bhd) and he had grown to be quite comfortable with my style. The latest soon-to-be-published book was supposed to be done by other designer (as I am quite busy this year) but he was not quite please with it and wants me to design it along with 2 other books.

So yes, continuing to design for him.

    Malay Princesses

Moving on to a much interesting project: Puteri-Puteri Melayu—my next book. Am going to illustrate 8 Malay princesses and the first one will be this; Cik Siti Wan Kembang, the warrior princess. My publisher has compiled the text and I just need to do some research on the clothing and illustrate.

    princess

History has it that Princess Cik Siti Wan Kembang’s father was the Ruler in an area that is now known as the state of Kelantan. Her father was Raja Ahmad and her mother Cik Banun, both from royal lineage. However, Raja Ahmad died when Princess Cik Siti Wan Kembang was only four years old. Raja Hussein from Johore was appointed as regent to rule Kelantan.

Longer stories on my upcoming book. Stay tuned!

P/S My Mother’s Kitchen (MMK) picture book is 90% done and I just got the edited text from the editor. Hope MMK and Malay Princesses will be ready before I leave for Abu Dhabi International Bookfair so that I have more picture books to showcase. 😉

  • TRAVEL/HOLIDAYS

    Travel keepsake

I buy what I see and like and below are some of the things I bought when I travel. Postcards and magnets are a must; these two things are top on my list as I collect them religiously.

Other keepsakes that I collected include train tickets, boarding pass, brochures, maps, leftover foreign notes/coins, stamps, receipts and many more! Yes, quite a hoarder but I might want to use them all one day and create my scrapbook or at least scan some of them and use it as decoration in my yet-to-be-created Illustrated Travelogue.

What are the things you like to buy and keep for memory?
