ABOUT ME

Scary moment

It was really scary. The freaking squall yesterday blew off roofs and trees like crazy. Our house was not excluded. I was watching my son and nephews drawing at the back hall when it all happened. The rain was not so heavy at the beginning but it wreaked havoc gradually and a sudden loud bang of thunderstorm turned the power line off. We ran upstairs to the main hall (our house is a split level) in seek of a safer area. We were shivering and were hugging each other. There were only four of us in the house. My husband went for a meeting while my mother went for her Quran reading class. Within seconds, water started coming in like waterfall in the back hall and in my mother’s room. My working space was flooded with water which came in from the door. I didn’t quite save all the paper boxes from under the table. Thank you for the fast action of my nephews, we managed to save few electrical items from the water. Our computer room was okay but my computer died down along with the phone.

The thunderstorm started around 4.30pm and finally calmed down an hour later. Some of the roof on top of my mother’s room and the back hall were gone, if not broken into pieces. Some of our neighbors lost their roofs as well! My mother reached home around this time and was happy to see that we’re okay. She was so worried about us. My husband came back an hour later. A neighbor who managed to take a glimpse of what happened told us that she saw a tornado-like wind sweeping another neighbor’s roof!

To cut the story short, we started cleaning our house and called it off the day around 10pm. We continued cleaning our carpets and what not this morning. My aunt came to help. My mother told me that some ‘important people’ came to visit around 11pm when we were fast asleep. They promised to come in the morning to help fix the neighbourhood roofings. I woke up around 3am just to check the day’s emails using my husband laptop and went to visit Mariuca ; the wifi is in good condition, yippee yay!

The ‘important people’ never made it as promised. We had to went through another rain and my husband managed to cover the the roofing frames with wide tarpaulin to at least minimize water from coming in. It was around 6.30pm we managed (so did our neighbours) to call somebody to fix our roofs. Should’ve listen to my husband to just fix the roof early in the morning.

My husband managed to fix this computer too. The wireless ADSL router can still be use with only two ports working. The phone totally went dead, will have to buy a new one. The computer’s motherboard are badly damaged. I forgot to pull the plug off the wall. My husband bought a new one for me and luckily all my works in the hard-drive are safe. I didn’t backed them up and my husband scolded me for being such ignorance. He never failed to back-up all his works on monthly basis and I, I have this year’s work all in the hard drive without backing a single file! Had it be the hard-drive that died, I will face a big trouble coz my on-going works with few clients are in there!

Anyway, I thank God and happy that everything is back to normal. The roof is good, the computer is back running and the house is dry. I will do all the files backing after this. At the meantime, below are some pictures of our roof. I’m off to join my husband potato-couching in front of the tv while having my favourite sunflower seeds that I bought from last Sunday.

Have a great Friday y’all, will be back in the morning for more posts; namely about Yassin’s Teacher’s Day Celebration and few others.

I think i would have panicked big time. Its amazing how you held yourself. Relatively cool and calm considering. I hope your roof stays and doesnt ever decide on running anywhere again.
