Those are mine! This too!

When Trinity had this problem, it never occurred to me that the same thing will happen to me. I mean, I’ve got pinged back by unknown blogs and thought who are these people who are so kind to link back to me? I just approved the pings and they went into my comment box. Later, when Bobby informed me that his blog posts are being duplicated and told me that it might happened to me as well, I startled. But still I didn’t do anything about it. When he put up A gift to content thieves, then I realised I am, too, a victim of spamming blog (or splog). This splog thing is unfamiliar to me. So I visited those splogs which put up ‘excerpts’ of my posts. I left them comments but they are ignored, still awaiting moderations. I e-mailed one of the splog owner, also waiting for the reply. I don’t think they will ever reply. One of the blog has this disclaimer:

Please note, all content posted on this blog remains the property of its writer/s.

We did not and will not write any original content, all the content displayed has been pulled from public RSS feeds and is there to mearly spread my fellow bloggers work and provide a PageRank giving link back to the work.

If you object to me using any of the above methods to further the excellent information these, and many other bloggers create, please feel free to email me with your reasoning.

We are not here to steal content, this is mearly a social experiment.

Thanks for your time.

Lol, I’m convinced with his words but hello, I have no more PageRank to begin with. Linking to me will certainly not going to do me any good in PageRanking. ‘Thank you’ for the so-called ‘giving the link back to work’ but no thank you, your link is NOT worth it!

Anyway, after Bobby‘s recommendation to read Lorelle’s great tips on how to stop content theft, I downloaded two plugins: AntiLeech Splog Stopper by Owen Winkler and Digital Fingerprints by Maxpower.ca. I activated them. I even went to my control panel and blocked those same IPs from there. I took Bobby’s advice to activate Akismet as well. So far so good but I haven’t put up any post after installing the plugins.

This post will be the guinea pig, err I mean guinea post.

Ooooh Emila!!! Feel so bad for u! You know, come to think of it…several months back I too got some duplicate comments from noone in particular, which I also approved in my comment box. And I noticed several unknown sites who took some of my posts but like u I also thot who are these nice ppl giving me some linkbacks!! Am worried now la!!! Some more they have the cheek to say that it’s a freaking social experiment?!!! 😡

  • emila

That’s why Marzie! Heart paining la! You better check those comments/pingback again and marked it as spams! And read Lorelle’s post on how to prevent stop content theft.

Hi Emila! I want you to know that my most recent post, is for the first time in what seemed like an eternity, unscraped!

I couldn’t believe it. Thw anti-leech plug in is working. So far, I have 36 IP addresses entered in, and apparently I have successfully blocked the sites scraping my content! Wow!

Just keep entering them in as they come and you’ll end up in the clear. Thanks for the link and I hope that the plugins help you as much as they have helped me. It is a shame to have this happen but not everyone is honest.

No one should steal. Even though that site says they aren’t stealing, they are not operating a normal blog. Why don’t they just write their own posts and make some friends? Then you wouldn’t mind a link from them. It’s so stupid.

I sure would like to talk to their parents! Hahaha…wouldn’t that be fun?

That’s really too bad to hear of people stealing your contents. Great that you’re taking steps to stop them.

I’m just lain too lazy to do actually do anything about it. I mean, they can steal my content all they want. Not that my postings are anything to shout about to start with … LOL!

  • emila

Thanks for all the advice and tips, Bobby! It’s working for me as well. It’s been quiet without all the pingback from them, lol. Yeah, I would love to talk to their parents too.

  • emila

Hi Nick, lol! My posts are not anything to shout about too but I strongly believe that what’s mine is mine. Anway, if they get the duplicated indexed first, I’m the one who seems to have duplicated content later.

  • trinity

Hm..Hm… silly statement of that thievs! 🙂 Bobby, you are so funny.. yeah we have to report what they are doing now to their parents! hahaha…

I use blogger so I don’t think that I can use this kind of plug in! 😥

    Hi Emila

I feel bad for you but I kinda used to it already. I do get pissed off just like Trinity did especially so since my site was link to a porn site.. awful right? I’m not sure what else being in blogger hosting can do so I will probably think of getting a hosting with wordpress. I think that is most feasible..

Thanks for posting this. Really informative 🙂

First off, be sure to take a look at the CopyFeed plugin and see if it can help you at all. I it something of a swiss-army knife when it comes to content theft protection.

Second, you may want to brush up on the DMCA and the various laws for getting these sites shut down. I have some of the info on my site and you can find other details all over the Web.

Finally, if there is anything I can do to help, let me know. I’ll gladly assist any way that I can.

Hope that you are able to put a stop to the abuse!

HI Trin! Thanks for dropping by! Maybe it’s time for you to change to wordpress, wordpress has so many plugins you can enjoy! Give it a try!

  • emila

Hi Jonathan! Thank you for dropping by my blog, it’s such a great honour to have you here. I will take a look on the CopyFeed plugin and try it on.

    Thanks Jonathan!

When it started to happen to me I too consulted Lorelle.

What I do now is keep my blog on the short feed option within blogger – which means they can never post the image and the amount of text posted is also very limited.

Plus I write to Google Ad Sense, specifying my feed on the spam blog which is decorated with Ad Sense adverts and tell them that due to my copyright notice the blog in question is commiting an illegal act and is also commiting fraud as they are now profiting from it via Google.

I never ever comment on the splog. That might give them your e-mail address!
